The idea of creating this website started when Tim Lambert transformed his passion for history into a job. In the late 1990s he began writing histories of towns for friends. Eventually, a friend suggested he should put the histories on the internet so everybody could read them. His website was switched on 11 December 2001. At first, it only had about 10 histories but it gradually grew larger and larger. Then in 2003, he began writing histories of countries and later he added articles about life in the past. Eventually, he decided to create a World History Encyclopedia.
L'idea di creare questo sito è iniziata quando Tim Lambert ha trasformato la sua passione per la storia in un lavoro. Alla fine degli anni 1990 iniziò a scrivere storie di piccoli paesi per gli amici. Infine, un amico suggerì di inserire queste storie su internet così che tutti le potessero leggere. Il suo sito fu creato l'11 dicembre 2001. Inizialmente, conteneva solo 10 storie circa ma è diventato gradualmente più grande. Poi nel 2003, ha iniziato a scrivere storie sui paesi e in seguito aggiunse articoli riguardanti la vita nel passato. Alla fine, decise di creare una enciclopedia storica mondiale.
